The population of Dublin is now extremely diverse with people of many different nationalities and cultures living and working here. Indeed we have found a similar diversity amongst our registered volunteers. Volunteering offers many benefits to people who are staying in Ireland for a short while or who are settling here for the long-term. Volunteering offers a perfect opportunity to become part of the community, to make friends and to learn about the city. In our experience many newly arrived volunteers are interested because it gives them a chance to improve their English skills and in some cases their Irish!
Of course it is not all a one-way street. International volunteers possess a wealth of knowledge and experience which voluntary organisations find indispensible. There is nothing more rewarding in volunteering than being able to learn about different cultures and indeed many voluntary placements are specifically orientated around promoting inter-culturalism and inter-cultural learning.
So if you are planning a trip to Dublin City for a few months, or are planning to settle here for the long-term, why not consider volunteering with a local organisation? Please note we are not in a position to facilitate international volunteer applications as our remit is the Dublin City South area (Dublin 2/4/6/8/10/12). However, once you arrive in Dublin you can get in touch and we will be happy to help you find a suitable role.
