24/7 photo exhibition focusing on the work of the Samaritans

24/7 photo exhibition focusing on the work of the Samaritans

A photo exhibition focusing on the work of Samaritans is currently on display in the European Union House on Dawson Street and in Fixx Coffee House on the same street.

The exhibition – entitled ‘24/7’ – highlights how Samaritans’ services are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week, 365 days of the year. It celebrates the contribution made by Samaritans volunteers: over 2,000 people volunteer with the organisation in Ireland, coming from all walks of life and ranging in age from early 20s upwards.

Volunteers featured in the exhibition include:

  • Dog-lover Karen Larkin, who is a volunteer with the Drogheda Branch of Samaritans.
  • Brian Mullan, who was photographed on his Co. Sligo farm.
  • Prisoners at Dublin’s Wheatfield Prison, who have been trained by Samaritans to become ‘Listeners’ and to offer support to their fellow prisoners.
  • Volunteers participating in a ‘feet on the street’ outreach initiative in Dublin’s Temple Bar.
The exhibition also features images of volunteers at work in the Sligo and Dublin branches of Samaritans, and members of the ‘Festival Branch’ delivering outreach support services at this year’s Oxegen music festival. All images were taken by Irish photographer Derek Speirs.
‘24/7’ is running in joint, neighbouring locations – European Union House, 18 Dawson Street and Fixx Coffee House, 13-17 Dawson Street – until Friday, 29th July. The opening hours for European Union House are Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm. The opening hours for Fixx Coffee House are Monday to Saturday, 7am to 8pm, and Sunday, 8am to 7pm. Admission to the exhibition is free of charge.
